Update

Greetings!

Well, it was great to meet with everyone this week to have meaningful conversations about life in Grade 5.

This week in Math students worked towards mastery of dividing whole numbers using the standard approach, partial quotients, and base ten model to gain a concrete understanding of the concept of dividing. Students also used compatible numbers to estimate divisors and dividends to determine the quotient to be between 2 whole numbers. The Problem of the Week is being turned in today with some multi-step problems. Students are also using play money of $576 to divided between 6 people. Here, students have to make change from large bills to hand out to each person.

This week in Science students read a brief history on roller coasters and then created a design plan for their own group's roller coaster. Yesterday, students aimed to implement their plan with adjustments to create a functioning roller coaster. Students collaborated on each decision to pull this together and had a lot of fun. Today, students wrote and discussed what worked, or what needed to be adjusted as a summary conclusion for the week. I will email the video this weekend.
