Update

Greetings!

Last night we honored our 5th Grade Special Education Teacher Mrs. Lambert. She is retiring at the end of the school year. She began teaching in 1981 and has enjoyed a truly, wonderful career serving the children of Maynard. Feel free to express your appreciation with a little note. I know she would appreciate that.

This week in Science students learned about types of biomes. Students created an Ecosystem Pyramid based on an animal species and wrote a Paragraph using the following key words: Individual, Population, Community, Ecosystem, Biome, and Biosphere. Students also filled out a Food Web Reading Sample encompassing each phase including: Producers, Consumers, and Decomposers. Finally, students completed an analysis of their Bottle Ecosystems. Students answered the following questions: What was the purpose of the Ecosystem in a Bottle Project? Describe the type of environment that is found in your Bottle Ecosystem. How do decomposers fit into your food chain or web? What is their role in the flow of nutrients? What has changed since the creation of your bottle ecosystem? Note all differences. What factors led to the success of your bottle project? What improvements would you make to your bottle ecosystem if you built it again?

This week in Mr. Marrese's History Class students read an overview of the American Revolution including the major battles and key players. Students responded to the Political Cartoon: Join or Die. Students also learned about "The Shot Heard Round the World". They read about the perspectives from a British and a Continental Soldier to determine in their own minds who shot first to begin the War.

There will be 1 more test in both Science and History to end the school year.

Regards,

Chris
